These two bootleg mines we found while offroading behind the Archbald shooting range. The two openings are about a hundred yards apart and each one goes in only about 300 feet. The larger of the two has a small concrete doorway that goes into a room. The vein of coal is only one foot high. These two mines may be connected through the workings. There are no branches in either one of these mines. This is a perfect example of when mines shut down and workers still needed money and coal. There is a larger mine just up the hill. When it closed the workers did not want to rob the coal pillars in fear of a rock fall, hence the illegal bootleg mines on company property.
